How to Install Nougat Custom ROM on Lenovo A6000/Plus

Lenovo A6000/Plus smartphone comes with KitKat 4.4.4 pre-installed which can be upgraded to Lollipop 5.0.2. But Lollipop update is very buggy and eats more battery. A better way to enhance your device’s performance and unlock it’s full potential is to install custom ROM on it. Custom ROMs provide customized features and improved battery life. So, in this tutorial we will see how to install AOSP Extended Android Nougat 7.1 Custom ROM on Lenovo A6000/A6000 Plus.

Pre-requisites for Installing Android Nougat AOSP Extended Custom ROM

  • TAKE BACKUP OF ALL YOUR DATA (PHOTOS, VIDEOS, FILES ETC) BEFORE PROCEEDING. THIS PROCESS WILL COMPLETELY ERASE YOUR DEVICE’S INTERNAL MEMORY.
  • Your Lenovo A6000/Plus smartphone must be running on latest android version available officially (Lollipop 5.0.2 for Lenovo A6000/Plus). So, update your phone to latest version.
  • You must have Custom Recovery (TWRP 3.1) installed on your Lenovo A6000/Plus smartphone. You can check this tutorial for installing TWRP 3.1 on your Lenovo A6000 or A6000 Plus phone.
  • Download and save Android Nougat custom ROM to the root of your SD card (we have used AOSP Extended v3.3 Nougat 7.1.2 in this tutorial). Check this link for AOSP custom ROMs for Lenovo A6000/Plus.
  • Download and save Google Apps (GAPPS) package to the root of your SD Card. You can download Open GAPPS from here.

Install Android Nougat AOSP Extended Custom ROM On Lenovo A6000/Plus

Now, after you are ready with pre-requisites, it’s time to install Nougat custom ROM on your Lenovo A6000 or A6000 Plus phone. So, follow these steps.

Step 1: Copy Custom ROM on your SD card and Boot your Phone to Recovery Mode

First of all, download Android Nougat AOSP Extended Custom ROM and Open GAPPS zip files to root of your SD card and switch off your Lenovo A6000/Plus.

Now, press and hold Power + Volume (+ & – ) buttons together for 10 seconds to boot your Lenovo A6000/Plus into Recovery Mode.

You will boot into Recovery Mode. On first boot of TWRP recovery, you may see following screen just check the box and swipe to right to go to main menu.

Now, you are on main menu of TWRP Recovery.


Step 2: Completely Wipe your Lenovo A6000/Plus Phone

Now, we will wipe the device before installing Android Nougat 7.1 AOSP Extended Custom ROM. So, tap on WIPE button. In WIPE menu, tap on Advanced Wipe and select every thing except your SD Card. Swipe to right to wipe everything.

Now, you have successfully erased your phone’s internal memory. Tap on Home button to return to TWRP main menu. We will now flash Nougat AOSP Extended custom ROM in Lenovo A6000 or A6000 Plus.

Step 3: Install Nougat AOSP Extended Custom ROM on Lenovo A6000 or A6000 Plus

We have successfully formatted internal memory of Lenovo A6000 / Plus smartphone. So, we will now install Nougat custom ROM in Lenovo A6000 Plus phone. Tap on INSTALL in TWRP home screen.

Browse to the External SD Card and select AOSP Extended Nougat 7.1 Custom ROM zip file. After that, swipe right on TWRP to flash and install the selected Custom Nougat ROM on Lenovo A6000 Plus.

Android Nougat AOSP Extended Custom ROM will be flashed to Lenovo A6000 or A6000 Plus. After that, tap on Wipe cache/dalvik button to wipe cache. Make sure to swipe right to wipe the cache.

Step 4: Install GAPPS on your Lenovo A6000/Plus Phone

Now, we have successfully installed AOSP Extended Android Nougat 7.1 Custom ROM on Lenovo A6000/A6000 plus phone. We need to flash GApps in order to get Google Play functionality in Lenovo A6000 Plus phone.

So, go back to home page of TWRP and tap on Install button again. Next, browse and select Open GApps zip file and swipe right to flash it.

After successful flashing of Google Apps package, Wipe cache/dalvik again. After wiping the cache, reboot your phone by tapping on Reboot button.

Step 5: Configure and Use Android Nougat on Lenovo A6000/Plus

First boot may take some time (maybe 10-15 mins). After booting up, you will see Android Nougat’s welcome page. So, select Language and tap on GET STARTED. After that, enter your Name and configure rest of the settings.

In next few steps, you will setup your Google account on your device. After you are done, you will see your Android Nougat home screen.

Hey thanks a lot, i don’t know why but my phone don’t want to go to recovery mode after pressing the three buttons that just put a screen with lenovo and android written and it stays like this until i start the phone again.. Perhaps because i don’t know which one of the: (TWRP 3.1.1 32-bit | TWRP 3.1.1 64-bit | TWRP 3.2.1 (For Oreo) | TWRP 3.2.2 (For Pie) ) i have to take..?

  2. I’ve tried it. It works smoothly and i like it. But i having a trouble that my lenovo a6000 can’t connect to PC. It’s not recognized (i’m using windows 10 by the way). Are there anyone having troubles like mine? Can’t you help me to fixed it?
