How to Set Video Wallpaper in Windows 10

People usually set photographs as wallpaper on their computers. Have you ever thought about setting up a video wallpaper? Imagine, you are working on your computer and the video is playing in the desktop background. Sounds cool, right? So, in this tutorial, we are going to explain, how to set video wallpaper in Windows 10 and Windows 7.

You only need the VLC Media player to be installed on your computer. In case you don’t have it, you can download it from the official website – videolan.org.

A) Setting Video Wallpaper in Windows 10 using VLC Player

Step 1: Play Video in VLC Player

First of all, open VLC Player and play the video you want to set as the desktop background.

Step 2: Set Video Wallpaper using VLC

Next, click on the Video menu and select Set as Wallpaper. Alternatively, you can right-click on the playing video and select Video > Set as Wallpaper.

Step 3: View Video in the Desktop Background

The video will start playing in your desktop background. But it will be more like Playing video on full screen. All your desktop icons and taskbar will be hidden. You can press Windows Key on the keyboard to see the Start menu. You can also start any applications from the Start menu and use them while the video plays in the background.

How to Remove Video Wallpaper in Windows 10?

If you wish to remove the video background, simply press the Esc key on the keyboard. Alternatively, you can double-click or right-click and select Video and uncheck Set as Wallpaper. VLC Player will switch back to normal mode.

B) Setting Video Wallpaper in Windows 7 using VLC Player

Setting Video as wallpaper is quite simple in Windows 10. But in Windows 7, you have to change the VLC Player output to DirectX. Otherwise, it won’t play in the desktop background. Let’s see the process.

Step 1: Open VLC Settings

We need to make some changes to VLC Player’s settings to set the video as the desktop background. Open the VLC player, click Tools, and select Preferences. Alternatively, you can press “Ctrl + P“.

Step 2: Change VLC Output to DirectX

We are going to change the VLC output type to DirectX video output to set the video as wallpaper in Windows 7. Go to the Video tab click on Output dropdown and select DirectX video output.

Step 3: Save Changes and Restart VLC

Click on Save to save the changes and restart the VLC Player. Now, you are ready to set up a video wallpaper and watch a movie in the desktop background.

Step 4: Select DirectX Wallpaper in the VLC Player

Now, click on Video in the menu bar of VLC Player and select DirectX Wallpaper. Your current wallpaper will be replaced by the video that is playing in VLC Player.

Step 5: Minimize Window to View Background Video

Minimize VLC Player to view video playing in the Desktop background. You have successfully set video as wallpaper in your desktop background.

How to Remove Video Wallpaper in Windows 7?

It is quite easy to remove video wallpaper from the desktop background. Just un-check DirectX Wallpaper to remove the video wallpaper, and refreshing the Desktop will also remove the video wallpaper.

Set Video Wallpaper in Windows using VLC Player
