How to Start Windows 8 in Safe Mode
Starting Windows 8 in Safe Mode is different from Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7. You can easily start Windows XP, Vista, or 7 in Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key on startup. But you can not use this method to boot into Safe Mode on Windows 8.
So, we will have to use a different method to boot Windows 8 into Safe Mode. To enter the Safe Mode in Windows 8, we will use the Advanced Startup options from Recovery settings.

Boot Windows 8 or 8.1 into Safe Mode
Starting Windows 8 in Safe Mode is a bit lengthy process. However, the process is simple and straightforward. You just need to follow these steps.
Step 1: Open Update and Recovery Settings
First of all, go to Start Screen by pressing Windows Key on the keyboard, and then click on the PC Settings tile.
In PC Settings, click on Update and Recovery to open Update and Recovery settings. There we will use Recovery options to start Windows 8 in Safe Mode.
Step 2: Go to Advanced Startup in Recovery Settings
In Update and Recovery settings, click on Recovery to view Recovery options.
In Recovery options, the third option is for Advanced Startup. Click on Restart Now under Advanced Startup to boot or start your Windows 8 into Safe Mode.

Step 3: Change Startup Settings to Start Windows 8 in Safe Mode
After you click on Restart Now, your PC will restart. Next, you will see three options, click on Troubleshoot to view troubleshooting options.
In the Troubleshoot menu, click on Advanced Options to change startup behavior. We will change the startup to boot Windows 8 into Safe Mode.
On the Advanced Options page, click on Startup Settings to change Windows 8’s startup behavior.
Step 4: Boot Windows 8 into Safe Mode
Startup Settings will show you the options that you can change/set. Click on Restart to continue-
On startup, you will see Startup Settings. You can use Number keys or Function keys (F1, F2 …) for choosing the specific option. To start Windows 8 in Safe Mode, press Number Key 4 or Function Key F4.
Step 5: Login to your PC
Your PC will start in Safe Mode, log in using your existing credentials.
You will see a black desktop with Safe Mode written on the corners. Windows Help and Support window will open automatically, you can close it and continue your troubleshooting.

Start your Windows 8 PC in Safe Mode for Troubleshooting
