Windows 10 May 2020 Update (20H1) – New Features
After a long testing phase, the new version of Windows 10 has been finally released. It is the first feature update for the year 2020 and it has been named Windows 10 version 2004 or 20H1. This update was initially scheduled to be released for the users in April 2020 but it was released in May 2020. Hence, it has been named Windows 10 May 2020 update version 2004. However, this update has already been available for Windows Insiders for a while.
Well, we already have it and we have compiled a brief list of some prominent features of Windows 10 version 2004. Note that all these features are available in the Insider preview version 19603 and later. Windows 10 May 2020 (20H1) Update – Features and Changes
Here is a compiled list of new features and changes introduced in the Windows 10 20H1 update.
1. Ability to Rename Virtual Desktop
With Windows 10 version 2004, you can rename the virtual desktops. You can simply click on the header to rename it or right-click on the desktop to get a Rename context menu. Click on Rename to rename the selected virtual desktop.
2. Cortana Improvements
Microsoft has changed Cortana a lot with its Windows 10 May 2020 (20H1) update. You can now move and resize the Cortana interface. Now it has a Chat-Based interface. However, there is a significant drawback to Cortana, now, it can’t control the music, Smart Home control, and other third-party apps. However, productive skills such as opening or sending an email and setting a reminder are improved. Now you can even join and set up a meeting through Cortana.

3. Tablet Mode Changes in Windows 10 May 2020 Update
The Tablet Mode is redesigned. It is now more touch-friendly. They have increased the spacing between the icons in the Taskbar. The search box is converted into an icon. Whenever you touch any text field the keyboard automatically pops up.
4. Task Manager Changes in Windows 10 version 2004 (May 2020 20H1 update)
Task Manager is now updated to show detailed hardware information. You can check the dedicated GPU temperature. If you have multiple hard drives, the Task Manager now displays HDD or SSD. In the details tab, you can now see the provide feedback option for each process.

5. Update and Recovery Settings in Windows 10 version 2004
If you are on a limited data network, you can limit the bandwidth for downloading the update with the Windows 10 spring update. Not in just the percentage but you can enter the bandwidth in numbers as well.
The Recovery Options also received a significant change. Earlier, when you had to recover the PC, you had to download the ISO or create a bootable device, now, you can reinstall or repair Windows 10 from the cloud.

6. Notepad Improvements in Windows 10 May 2020 Update
Notepad is a handy app in Windows 10, yet doesn’t get much attention with the updates. However, with Windows 10 20H1 or version 2004, they have improved it a little bit. Now, it is available on the Microsoft Store so it will receive frequent updates. Now you can see the line number and column if you enable the word rap. If you select a text and press Ctrl + F, the selected text automatically appears in the Find Box. I wish that they would include the word count in the Notepad as well.
7. Snip & Sketch Improvements
Microsoft is disabling the Snipping Tool and giving full charge to Snip & Sketch. It has improved and is now available in a single-window mode.

8. Lock Screen Changes
In the previous versions of Windows 10, you need to enter the password while logging into Safe Mode. But with the Windows 10 20H1 update, they are providing the option to enter the PIN for the safe mode also. This allows you to disable the password entirely from Windows 10. Now, when you update the profile picture in your Windows Account, it gets updated on all platforms more quickly.

9. Mouse Cursor Speed
Now, Mouse Cursor speed is available in the Settings app, earlier it was in the Control Panel.
10. Language Settings
The new Language Settings is improved to make it easier to understand. Now, you can get an overview of Windows Display, Apps & Website, Regional format, Keyboard, and Speech languages.
11. Microsoft Defender Changes in Windows 10 version 2004 May 2020 Update
For this new update, Microsoft is renaming its security product. Earlier, it was Windows Defender and now it is renamed as Microsoft Defender. It may be because Microsoft is planning to launch it cross-platform. You can now also exclude files and folders from scanning in Microsoft Defender.

12. Troubleshooters
The Troubleshooter window now doesn’t contain the list of troubleshooting options that you can apply for fixing Windows 10. It is now available on Additional Troubleshooters.
13. Optional Features
With Windows 10 version 2004, you will be getting an updated Optional Features list. Now, you can easily add multiple optional features at the same time.
14. Windows Search Improvement
Windows Search has now become more intelligent. It can detect and correct the small typos in search queries that it previously couldn’t. It will also show better suggestions now when you type something on the search bar.
15. Changes in Settings
With the latest update, Microsoft has made a few changes in the Settings window. The header is updated with a new message to get even more out of Windows. It contains options to set OneDrive, Link your Phone, Enable Timeline, and more.
16. Text Cursor Settings
Microsoft always does something to make its ease of access better in every update. This time they have included the option to increase and add custom color text cursors.

17. Narrator Changes in Windows 10 20H1 Update
The Narrator is also updated with a new setting to change how capitalized text is read. The options are – “Don’t Announce”, “Increase Pitch”, and “Say Cap”. There is an experimental feature on having the narrator more efficient and Outlook. You will see the option to get more descriptions, page titles, and popular links. With this option turned on you can get information about images and URLs by using the narrator key which is usually the CapsLock + Ctrl + D. You can use the Narrator key + S button to get the list of popular links for a webpage.
